Will of Absolam Bower

In the name of God Amen

I Absolam Bower of the County of Ashe & State of North Carolina being of sound mind & memory and considering the uncertainly of the of this frail & transitory life, do [scratched out] therefore make ordain publish and declare this to be my last Will And Testament, That is to say. First After All my my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my Estate real & personal I give bequeath & dispose of as follows; to wit To my beloved Wife the room where she lives & one sixth part of what is made on the plantation the household & kitchen furniture Choice of my horses four of my best milch cows, My home tract of land to my son George Fifteen Hundred Dollars and one thousand more to Hamilton interest held by said George at my death all my home plantation at Twenty five hundred Dollars. To my son David To one slave Called Henry To Thomas & Elizabeth Calloway To one black woman Vine & her child Frank after the old ladys death To Harison & Riley Baker. To slaves Richard Lucy & her child Hannah, To Neal & Sally Colvard , To slaves Charles & Ame one slave Called Mitchel to waite on the old Lady her lifetime and then to her heirs, To Hamilton all my land in the cove Two Hundred & fifty Dollars. These slaves all to be valued after my death at a low-cash price by disinterested men if you can't agree so as to make son John share & share alike with what they have had heretofore; Likewise I make constitute and appoint my said son George and Thomas Calloway to be Executors of this my Will & Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

The within Will was duly proven in open Court by the oath of Jesse B. Miller one of the subcribing witnesses to said will and to be recorded and George Bower and Thomas Calloway duly qualified as Executors.
