David came to Transcona from Rivers, MB in 1912 with the opening of the Transcona Shops. He was employed as a machinist with the Canadian National Railways until his retirement in 1947 after 35 years of service.
He played an active part in the Town's development and was interested in all community projects He was a member of the Town Council in 1915 and 1916; a School Trustee in 1917 and Mayor for two years in 1919 and 1920. He was appointed Police Magistrate in 1927, a position he held until his death, and for 33 years was Justice of the Peace, also until his death. He was widely known in Transcona and in Greater Winnipeg and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and acquaintances
Fraternally, he was a Past Noble Grand of Transcona Lodge No. 81, I.O.O.F., having been a member of this Order since 1906. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, having joined the order in 1913; for 30 years he was secretary of Riley Lodge No. 34, Knights of Phythias, an office he held at the time of his death. He was Past Grand Chancellor for Manitoba in 1927 and past Supreme Master-at-Arms of the Knights of Pythias; Past Royal Vizier of Atabara Temple, D.O.K.K. He was also past president of the International Association of Machinists Local 484; and an Honorary Member of Transcona Branch No. 7, Canadian Legion, B.E.S.L..

First record I have found of Ann was marraige. McDonald Co, MO Marraige
Records, Book A, p88. Presider: "John Lewis, Justice of P". Name here
is recorded as "Anna Brock".
Next record is 1876 McDonald Co Cen. Thomas and "Martha Ann" are listed
in household w/ Thomas' family. Martha Ann is listed as age 27.
McDonald Co Probate, Book "C", p434: (21 Sept 1891) "Ann Bowers" receives
"entire property" of Thomas Bowers.
Mar Isaac Everly in approx 1894 after Thomas Bowers died in 1891. Possible
Homer Everly (15 Aug 1895 - 7 Feb 1897) buried in Union Cem may be son.
1900 McDonald Co Cen lists household as: Ann & Isaac Everly and stepsons
Samuel J. and Susie Bowers.
In 1981 Interview with Mrs. Ava Stewart she recalled Ann Everly as mother
of Dr. Joe Bowers.
"Shadows of the Past, Cem's of Tulsa Co" lists a Martha Ann Bowers (1843-
1942) buried at Red Fork in same cem as gs Alvin and d Susie Yargee. Birth
date does not agree with other records and stone is not listed as "Everly"
as we might have expected, but this still may be our Ann. Could not locate
stone at 3/3/95 visit.
