Edith came to Transcona with her husband in 1913. She was an active member of the Transcona United Church and was also an active member of the Senior Ladies' Aid.
Fraternally, she was a member of Confidence Rebekah Lodge No. 40, I.O.O.F. and also of the Nomads of Avrudaka, the ladies' branch of the Knights of Pythias.
Throughout her life's span she took an active interest in all community work and was very well known. A note from her obituary states: "Many of her friends and acquaintances attended the service, the Church being filled to capacity and a number had to listen to the service from outside. Mrs. Brewster had a large circle of friends who held her in very high esteem."

James Bowers is listed in 1876 and 1880 McDonald Co Census, these put him
with parents of Thomas W. and Ann. A discrepency in age occurs here as he
is listed as "4" in 1876 and "5" in 1880. Unless something drastic happened
my conclusion is that the 1876 entry is "4 months" and correct in 1880.
I am having trouble with the name JAMES. James is listed in the 2 seperate
census entries above, and in the 1880 version James and Joeseph are BOTH
listed clearly. However, in the 1920 Oklahoma Cen, Dr. Bowers is listed as
"James S."
In 1908 McDonald Co Probate records (Book G, p65) heirs of M.L. Bowers
include siblings "J.C.Bowers and J.S. Bowers". My deduction is that J.C. is
nephew James, hence the "James C." Another related entry includes
"children of Thomas Bowers, reside in McDonald Co."
According to 1900 Census, James and Lillie had been divorced, She and
daughter Dicy appear to be living alone with Lillies's parents in 1900 census.
From tombstone inscriptions, a son, Clarence was born in 1901. An unusual
inscription is also found on a 5 year old daughter's (Glades) stone;
"daughter of L.A. Bowers", L.A. being mother Lillie A., With no mention
of Father.
No record of James has been found after 1908 probate records
In 1981 interviews with O.L.(Doc) Bowers and Ava Stewart both recall one
of Tom Bowers 3 children as "Jack". Doc thinks he may have been relative
that was shot in Tulsa Ok, with bro-n-law Van Yargee.
1995 information from sister, Pauline Hall clarifies incedent. She reports
that Jack was killed in a roadhouse incident, but not Van Yargee. Haskel
Hall says Jack died at a place called "Pestal Hill" which is west of
Red Fork.
