William was a native of Wilson Co., TN. He married his wife in Christian Co., KY, where she was from, and they settled in Wilson Co., TN and lived there until 1848, when they removed to Davidson County. Paul received his education in Cloverdale Seminary, but at the age of 17 he left school to work for the railroad company at Montgomery, AL, and later went to New Orleans, LA where he connected with the Southern Weighing and Inspection Bureau. He entered the employ of the Warner Iron Works as a bookkeeper in 1906, and rose to the position of General Manager of the same company. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias & was a mason belonging to Trinity Consistory No.2. Maggie: Paul also belonged to Almina Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. at Nashville, TN. Maggie's father, Thomas, was a prominent farmer of Cumberland Furnace, who was connected with the large wholesale firm of Jackson, Matthews & Harris of Nashville, TN. The McNeilly family settled in Dickson County among the earliest pioneers, and Mrs. Bowers' father, Thomas McNeilly, was a prominent attorney here and served as county clerk for nearly a quarter of a century.
